Things I Don't Love Thursday Link Up

This is pretty self-explanatory. Stuff that I am just not about recently. So without further ado, here's what I'm currently not loving!

Nosy family members
Without going into the whole big long story, last week I received an envelope from my grandmother. Inside was an article on living with mental illness. I have an anxiety disorder. I've been living with it for 16 years now, and I'm pretty adept at dealing with it. I've had some set backs, of course, but now that I'm on medication, I can handle myself. So when I received this article, I was honestly pretty angry. Some of you may think it's sweet that my grandmother cares so much, but it's not like that. She consistently tries to act like she knows more about what I'm going through than she does, and I'm sick of it. Unsolicited advice is not something I go for, especially when it's unwarranted.

People who feel entitled
I don't mind working in the box office, I really don't. What I mind is when people think they deserve special treatment for one reason or another. We have a policy, and at the end of every phone call, I say, "Just so you know, all tickets are final sale; there are no refunds or exchanges." But I don't feel like people listen. I had a woman call up and order tickets last Wednesday. On Thursday, she called and said they had a conflict and needed to change their tickets. I politely told her we had a no refund, no exchange policy. Her response? "But I just called yesterday." ....did I say it was a no refund, no exchange policy unless you call back the next day? No. It's our policy, period. Granted, if someone has died or you're in the hospital, that's a different thing, and we'll happily exchange your tickets for another show. But not because you can't be bothered to check your calendar before you buy tickets. Go to any other theater, their policy is the same.

I honestly thought I would never stop talking on this post, but those are the only two things that have been really bugging me recently.

Happy Saturday everyone! It's been a good, productive week!

I spent Monday through Wednesday hard at work on our new website. It's coming along, and I'm really proud of the things I've learned to do, and the ease with which I can make some of the changes I'm asked to make. Not that it hasn't come with some huge frustrations, but hey, for someone who's never really done this before, I think I'm doing pretty well.

Yesterday I got to take a break from the website to work on This Wonderful Life stuff. We finalized the press release, some group sales stuff, and I sent out some feelers about ad space. I also created the poster which I sent off to the printer around noon only to have them tell us it would be ready after two! Speedy Gonzalez, Albison's Printing, Speedy Gonzalez! Dawn went out to lunch, so I didn't really get a break, so she sent me to pick up the posters and leave early.

After picking them up, I stopped by Walmart and Target to pick up some things. New beauty products and clothing (no matter how necessary it is) make me happy!

This weekend I'm in New Hampshire visiting my school and seeing their production of Les Miserables. That'll be tonight, and I'm super excited! I'm staying with my friend Sarah who I lived with my last semester, so I get to spend time with my favorite kitties, and enjoy Plymouth for a minute. I'll hopefully get to see my TD and some of my other friends. I didn't tell anyone in the show I was coming - surprise!

Melissa runs Lulu and Sweet Pea which I've mentioned before and it's one of my favorite blogs! I read her every day! So this was definitely a highlight of my day! Maybe people actually do read my blog...

Headbands and Upcycled Tees!

Just a couple of fashion things today!

When Alex and I met up at the Maine Mall, one of my purchases was this cute knotted headband from Forever 21. I've been really liking this style lately, especially because it perks up my normal "get my hair out of my face" style for summer.

I really love the pop of color it adds. Plus, I think it makes a regular old bun look so much nicer. A little Rosie the Riveter in the modern day thing.

Once I actually have a little bit of expendable cash, I'm definitely planning on getting more. Forever 21 has some totally cute ones right now. Plus, Beth found a Pinterest tutorial on how to make our own! We both still have some extra fabric from our pajama making excursion, and I think my cute little owl fabric will be adorable as a knotted headwrap!

Another DIY project I've completed lately is this cool t-shirt mod that I found, strangely enough, on one of my favorite blogs. I say strangely because I was searching Google when I found the tutorial, but the blog just happens to be one of my favorites, LuLu and Sweet Pea.

Another style I'm loving is the baggy shirt/bandeau thing. Beth's style is definitely influencing mine this summer. She just looks so cute all the time!

Anyway, the shirt is my Federal Hill Main Street volunteer shirt from this year. I started with this one because I was afraid to cut straight into my Theater at Monmouth shirt without knowing how it'd turn out. I still intend to modify my TAM shirt, but maybe not this much. I may just go for a lower neck instead.

Sunny Summer Swap

So, back at the beginning of May I signed up for:



Basically, you get paired up with someone and you have a $25 limit to spend on anything summer-related you want. You learn about your partner and sent them a swap filled with things they'll love that'll help them jump into summer!

My partner is 34-year-old mother of three, Dara of Not in Jersey. We swapped Goodreads accounts, and I read through some of her blog. She posts lots of mom related things as well as crafts things and pictures of her family. It was really fun getting to know her!

We decided at the start that we'd send each other our swaps fairly early because we were both leaving town, so I received my box on the 28th.

I got:

This beautiful card set with a colorful parrot on it

Three pairs of earrings: little birds, dangly balls, and butterflies

Essie Turquoise and Caicos nail polish

Two Stephen King novels: Misery and Thinner

And these cute little bird clothespins

I'm not 100% sure what I'll do with the clothespins yet. I might buy little magnet strips so I can use them on the pretty magnet board my best friend made it. I think they'd go nicely with it.
